Orange Shirt Day honors the Indigenous and First Nations children taken from their homes — forced into residential schools or adoption under assimilationist policies — and the lasting impacts of that trauma.
This year, CHIRP will observe Orange Shirt Day virtually. In the days leading up to September 30th, we will share stories from Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribal Members, historical context, and reflection prompts on our social media channels.
Together, we invite our community to listen, learn, and reflect on these truths, holding space for the grief of the past and the resilience of Indigenous Peoples today.
