Nisenan Heritage Day 2025:

Surviving Obscurity | Wisdom Despite Erasure

Join the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe and CHIRP for the 16th Annual Nisenan Heritage Day on Sunday, October 12th, from 12:00pm – 4:00pm at Miners Foundry in Nevada City.

This year’s theme, Surviving Obscurity | Wisdom Despite Erasure, honors the resilience of the Nisenan People while celebrating their living Culture, history, and future in their Ancestral Homelands.

‘Uba Seo: Nisenan Arts and Culture

‘UBA SEO is our space in downtown Nevada City where we feature gallery exhibits, retail, and workshop space. It is our desire to bring authentic Native American art and education to our community while focusing on Native California artists.

UPCOMING EXHIBIT: PAMBLO: Remembering a Forgotten Leader

Join us for the opening art reception of Pamblo: Remembering a Forgotten Leader on Saturday, October 11th from 6:00pm - 9:00pm at ‘Uba Seo (located at 225 Broad Street) for an evening of art, conversation, and refreshments.

This newest exhibition celebrates a forgotten Nisenan leader and his descendants, in addition to exploring the impact of the gold rush on the Nisenan People and landscape, and will run from October 2025 to November 2026.

Visibility Through Art

Visibility Through Art is a community art initiative produced annually as part of CHIRP's Arts & Culture Program. Visibility Through Art is an intentional and informed collaboration between local artists and members of the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe.

Each project year explores a theme or subject of importance to the Tribe, culminating in an annual exhibition. Art opens the way for meaningful conversations around topics that can reveal solutions that may otherwise remain unseen.

Through creative and artistic means, the Nisenan are gathering and re-weaving the remaining traditional Indigenous knowledge to process the complex layers of trauma, bring visibility to their stories, history, and Culture, and to envision a path forward in a forever-changed landscape.

Harvest Dinner

This year’s annual fundraiser was on August 24, 2023, at The Stone House in Nevada City.

A Farm-to-Table Prix Fixe Dinner --in collaboration with local farms and The Stone House -- which includes Soup, Entree, Dessert + Glass of Wine or Non-Alcoholic Beverage.
