pe'amen

These Cultural artworks were created last year when CHIRP was selected to participate in the local Art in Storefronts program. These pieces address the erasure of the Nisenan and their language.

Pe’amen means “don’t speak”. The artwork in the middle is currently on display as part of the ERASED exhibit in 'Uba Seo: Nisenan Arts and Culture, 225 Broad St in Nevada City. We hope you'll check out this important and powerful exhibit, share it with your friends and give voice to this conversation!

Art was inspired by Teighlor Renée's "Look Around" series, created for CHIRP's 2019 Visibility Through Art show.

This was a project of Grass Valley-Nevada City Cultural District and Nevada County Arts Council.
