Federal Recognition

May 6th, 1913. President Woodrow Wilson signed Executive Order No. 1772 giving Federal Recognition to the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe. The Executive Order also took 76 acres of Reservation land under Federal Trust. In 1934 the Nevada City Rancheria was part of the Indian Reorganization Act where they formed a constitution and had an election that was overseen by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In 1958, as part of the Rancheria Act, Nevada City Rancheria was targeted for Termination. In 1964, the Reservation was sold at auction and the Nevada City Rancheria was Terminated.
